Physiology of an Empath-- what can go wrong in the body
I had a new patient yesterday who told me her health herstory. Grinding her teeth since she was a child. Now grinds/clenches 24 hours a day. Gut problems for forever. Gall bladder removal. Anxiety. Sleep problems. Acid reflux. Suspected fibromyalgia and autoimmune disease. When she finished I said, "Wow! You are a high empath! Have you read The Empath's Survival Guide? We need to work on you understanding your design."
During the cranial session the thing I most wanted to impress was this. These "failings" of your body are actually your body doing its best to cope with an external environment of toxicity. We were born into a dominant reality that does not support our empathic design. It is a for or against, either/or, polarized, sexist, racist, classist culture that instills systems of hierarchy based in capitalism and the bottom dollar. Plus this bottom dollar and reality of separation has separated people so much from nature we have toxicity in our water, in our soil and foods.
The only reason this dominant reality would bother us so is that we remember something different. We know it could all be based on love, connection, goodness and togetherness. We care.
And thus said, NONE OF THIS and NONE OF THIS ADAPTING is your fault. It is what happens to a high empath in our western world. It is predictable for me by now. And it is your incredible body doing its best to help you navigate.
It is not your body against you or your body as failing, it is your body working hard to maintain homeostasis and balance in an environment that does not support it.
What environment have you created in your physical external life so that you can heal? Be whole?
What environment are you tending to internally to nourish the regenerative capacities of your cells and DNA?
Mitch Horowitz did a great talk along these lines... Love his lectures.
